This is a collection of teaser and test animation clips as well as character designs for a client - Creative Purpose Films. They wrote a phenomenal script for a film called The Lighthouse at the Edge of the World. They want to pitch it to movie studios and engaged me to come up with elements they can package for a visual presentation.
I felt it was important to capture not only the look but essence of these characters to reflect their motivations for this story. We settled on a style that conveys a hand-painted look that makes the whole thing look like illustrations come to life. There are supernatural elements involved in this tale, and so we agreed this style allowed us to sidestep a photorealistic look to things. We could bring characters into focus by making the backgrounds seem almost impressionistic.
In the one-minute sequence above, we get a glimpse at the family dynamic and then tragic moment that sets up our protagonist Nora as an isolated figure who must look beyond her own grief for the greater good of her town.
Later in the story, Nora makes an incredible discovery deep in the forest of a Pacific Northwest town.
Here we have a test animation for Nox. He's composed of thousands of blue butterflies. He can scatter and reassemble himself elsewhere as well as use the butterflies as his spies in the town of Millville.
